Scrappin' Moms Idol 3: Round 4

Good day!

I just want to share my Scrappin Mom Idol 3 Round 4 Challenge entry. The challenge was

#1 Use the word, "PLAY" to inspire you on your layouts.
It does not have to be your title or even part of your journaling.
Use the word to inspire you on your theme.

#2 “PLAY” with your patterned papers and embellishments!

  • Alter AT LEAST one of the patterned papers you are going to use on your layout.
How do you alter? You can punch holes, you can doodle on it, spray glimmer mist, paint it, make it look entirely different! Something that we wouldn't recognize the paper you have used.

This is a good way to give your "old", long forgotten papers a makeover. Or maybe you just feel that the patterned paper can still be improved from its original state.
  • Alter AT LEAST one kind of embellishment you are going to use on your layout.
How? Add brads or blings on your buttons, or apply rub-on on your ribbons, punch shapes on your chipboard etc.

#3 We want to see photos AT PLAY, not necessarily kids playing. You can scrap about you and your hubby at play! Be imaginative when you PLAY.

#4 Use any (or all if you wish) of these colors:
- Yellow
- Orange
- Teal

You may mix the color/s you chose with other colors not specified in this challenge. Your chosen color/s should comprise at least 50% of your layout.

Here is my layout:

For this challenge, I've used a photo of me and my sisters playing around trying to imitate the "Three Monkeys." The three wise monkeys (Japanese: 三猿, san'en or sanzaru, or 三匹の猿, sanbiki no saru, literally "three monkeys") are a pictorial maxim. Together they embody the proverbial principle to "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil.

Colours Used: Teal, Yellow and Orange

Alterations: I have altered the Teal patterned paper by Cosmo Cricket, Get Happy: Crush pp, by drawing some zigzag doodling on it and distressing my pps. For my embellishment, I have altered the Prima teal flowers by stamping a zigzag image directly on it and adding some metal lollipop charms as finishing.
Journaling: See No Evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil

Materials Used: Cosmo Cricket Get Happy: Crush pp, Core'dinations Core Color Yellow Cardstock, Black Market Paper Society Letters from paradise Cocos Island pp, Bella Blvd Family Tree pp, Zigzag stamp, Prima Flowers, Burlap net, Metal Lollipop charms, dymo labeler for journaling, Tim Holtz Ranger Distress ink Tea Dye,AC Thickers ChitChat, and some leaves and flowers from local giftwrapping store

BasicGrey Wisteria LOs & a Blog Award

Miss you all!

I know I have been a bad blogger lately for not posting as much as I can. I have been busy taking care of my lil' one, finishing some DT layouts and preparing for moving in to a new house. Everything is such a mess around me lately that I barely get some inspiration.

Anyway, here are 2 layouts that I did a few weeks ago using BasicGrey Wisteria Collection Pack that I got from YourScrapbookStash.com GDT.

GIFT

For this layout, I've used a simple sketch that I did for ScrapThat! August GDT Contest. Here is the Sketch:

Then Now Forever

Btw, i got this very special blog award from my dearest friends Tara Orr and Jay. The idea is to link it back to the sender and then choose 3 other bloggers who inspire you. Now that is hard since I get so much inspiration from all of you. So for now, I will award this to my 3 co-DT's from My Scrapbook Nook:

1. Becky Williams
2. Alex Gadji
3. Lisa Day

That's all for now! I hope everyone of you are having such a great time with your family and friends! Keep safe!

Scrappin' Moms Idol 3: Round 2 & 3

Good day to everyone!

I just want to apologize for being away for the past few days. I was at the hospital since Sunday because my DD, Hannah, was hospitalized due to some viral infection. I would like to thank everyone who sent their regards and prayers, she's doing better now. Here are some photos of her:

Anyway, I would love to share to you my layouts for Scrappin Moms Idol3 Round 2 & 3. Yes, I made it through these next rounds.

Round 2: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

For this particular challenge, I was inspired to use earthtone colors to signify Mother Earth. I have even edited my photos to add a more vintage feel to it. They are taken a few weeks ago but I made them look as if it was older and aging.

REDUCE - I have used a beige cardstock (1 CS) and BasicGrey's Archaic pp (1PP) as a requirement to this challenge. I made a semi-negative space layout to incorporate white space to it. I have also limited my use of embellishments to a felt flower, Bobunny rubons, ribbon and beads.

By using only one pp (not doublesided), I decided to apply a paper technique, PAPER ROLLING, to add depth and dimension to my layout. I just thought this will be quite different from what others will do to their pp

REUSE - for this particular requirement, I reused the Butterfly Sticker by applying a masking technique on my cardstock before adhering the exact butterfly sticker to my layout. You will notice that the sticker was already transformed into a different color due to the ink but worked perfectly well with the color combination I chose to use.

RECYCLED - I have recycled the plastic container packaging (We R Memory Keepers Flower packaging) by using it as my photo frames, not only a photo frame but a photo shaker frame. I added beads on it to make my layout more fun and playful.

JOURNALING:
As you GROW into what you will be
You came from within, from just beneath my HEART
It's there you'll always be though your own LIFE will now start
You're growing so fast it sends me awhirl
With misty eyes I ask, where's my little BABY?

MATERIALS USED: beige cardstock, BasicGrey Archaic pp, Petals & Possibilities Metalic embellishment, Webster Cocoa Trim lace, BoBunny Rub-ons, BasicGrey Bitsy Stamp, Felt, Embroidery Floss, We R, Memory Keepers Flower packaging, Beads, BasicGrey Element Sticker, Burlap Cloth, Tim Holtz Distress inks - Tead Dye and Walnut Stain, PinkPaislee Alpha Stickers, AC Thickers

TECHNIQUES APPLIED: Distressing, paper tearing, inking, masking, stamping, stitching

Round 3: Space It Out! (White Space Challenge using 8 photos)

On this layout, I was inspired by the 206th Idea from the document, "A Day at the Park" Photos were taken last June 21 at Quezon City Memorial Circle. I decided to use film strips to convey continuity of the photos.

Journaling:
QC Memorial Circle June 21 2009

Materials Used: The Paper Studio pp, BG Urban Prairie Meadow pp, BG Urban Prairie Element Stickers, AC Poolside Thickers, Dymo Labeler, Prima Flowers

WOOT!!!!!

Thank God its Friday and what an amazing Friday it is!

Yes, obviously I am very very happy and excited to share with you all that I made it!

I am now a PROUD Design Team Member of My Scrapbook Nook! I was actually invited by Camilla to tryout for their DT Call. To be honest, I am really not expecting this. I think you will know what I mean if you go ahead and checkout their DT's blogs. THEY ARE AMAZING!!! CELEBRITIES!!!

Just a quick story, I was really quiet at their DT Call thread over their forum but I am quite active at the other topics this was because I am too scared and intimidated with the talent they have there. Then yesterday, while reading the DT CALL thread, Leah Killian (YES, her!!! Can you imagine?) mentioned that she was trying to reach those ladies that she picked through phone. And she said she's having some hard time reaching some girls. So I checked my phone and there's nothing. So I just admitted the fact that I did not made it.

After a few hours, I was sleeping, my cellphone rang and the screen says "WITHHELD". From that moment I knew it was her because everytime I see "WITHHELD" on my incoming call, it only means it's an international call. So I picked up the phone and yes, it was her. I know I did not sound so excited while talking to her but that was because I was totally shocked.

I can't believe that I made it. WOW! The new team of DTs are really talented. Feel free to check out their individual blog found at my blog's sidebar. I assure you, you will be amazed.

So I would like to invite all my friends and readers to be part of My Scrapbook Nook. They are a kit club that offers inspiration. camaraderie, great tutorials, amazing challenges, and great kit value. Check out their My Scrapbook Nook July Kit:

Gorgeous right? I am truly blessed to be part of My Scrapbook Nook. Thank you Camilla for the invitation, Thank you Leah for your trust and Congratulations to the lovely ladies who made it! Hope you can all join me there.

Scrappin' Moms Idol 3: Round 1

The much awaited scrapping event here in the Philippines is back!
It is a 2-month long challenge organized by the Scrappin’ Moms. The main objective is to display the creativity and artistry of the Filipino scrapbooker. This is a chance for us Filipinos to showcase the degree of talent that is very abundant here and comparable to our international counterparts. The finals will be an On-the-Spot challenge with the Top 10 Finalist on August 29, 2009.

This year’s theme is about going back to basics, back to the true meaning of a scrapbooker – preserving your family’s memories in pages that transcends time and trends.

I am so happy to announce that I made it through the Elimination Round and now the official challenges begins.

For Round 1, here are the requirements:

For this challenge, CREATE PAPER PIECES TO USE ON OUR LAYOUTS.
  • Creativity is the key and sky is the limit. There are no restrictions on what you can create.
  • The only limitation is to use at least 3 photos on your layout.
  • Include a write-up on your design process and how you created the paper pieces
  • You may submit any size format but no lesser than 8.5 x 11
  • Photos for this challenge must not have been used in any previous layouts (both Local or International)

Criteria for Judging: Originality & Creativity - 35%; Overall Design & Craftsmanship - 35%; Choice of Photo - 15%; Journal - 15%

Here is my take:

For this particular challenge, I actually made 2 layouts because I am quite unsure about paper-piecing. After chatting with Ms. Liza, Cookie and Lee, they gave me an idea on how to go about this. So this is actually my first time doing paper piecing and I decided to scrap some photos that I took last January to go with it. I am really not into scrapping myself and I really have less than 5 layouts I think with my photos. This is the best opportunity to use them.

The theme of my layout is about my unconditional love to my daughter. Underneath the big photo is a hidden letter to my young one, an intimate letter. I wish to keep it quite private between me and my baby so here is a part of it:

Journaling: My darling daughter, if you are reading this, I just want to let you know that you are loved. Eversince you came to our life, you brought us joy, peace and contentment. You are the best thing that happened to me and your dad. I love you

Paper Pieced Butterfly - On this layout, I made a big butterfly. Not owning any punchers or diecut machines, it made it quite harder. I handcut each pieces of it. i first made a pattern as its basis.

Materials Used:
Patterned Papers from BasicGrey Wisteria Collection Pack
Alphas - BG Wisteria Alpha Stickers
Rubons -We R Memory Keepers Promenade - White
Bling - Kaisercraft and Dew Drops

Feel free to view all the entries here.

Thank you for all your support ladies. Stay tuned for the next round.
