FINALLY!!!

Finally, I was able to finish the 12 x 12 LO that I started last Monday. To be honest, I am quite satisfied with the finished layout. I incorporated several techniques, used my Craft Robo, added some painting, made a LO celebrating the Chinese New Year last January 26 (No! I'm not Chinese :P) and joining a challenge.

This LO is my take to A 2 Z Scraplets January Challenge. They required the participants to create a LO based on Emily's sketch. For more details, feel free to visit their blog at http://a2zscraplets.typepad.com/

Here is the sketch:
Here is my take:

Title: Kung Hei BATCHOY! > Yes I know, this should have been "Kung Hei Fat Choi," a Chinese greeting as Happy New Year. But, since I would like to add humor to my LO as well as incorporating the celebration, I made it "Batchoy" which is a short term of "Tabatchoy," a local colloquial word for teasing that means chubby/fat. Hehehe

Materials Used: Patterned Papers from Fiddlerz3. The black background was designed through Photoshop since I do not have any black pattern papers or cardstock left. Big flower was from Rekindled Moment. Black Sand and Sticker Gems are from National Bookstore.

Photograph: Hannah Dominique taken January 26, 2009 wearing a red Chinese inspired vest. Photographed by yours truly. MWAH!!! Hehehe

Journalling: These are the traits and characteristics of a baby born on 2008 with a Chinese Zodiac of "Year of the Rat." I do know that Jauary 26, 2009 was the new year of the Ox but since its inappropriate to get predictions for a baby, I'd rather indicate here the Rat traits based on the Chinese Zodiac.

YEAR OF THE RAT
great leadership qualities
keen sense of observation
has a strong sense of reality
love to be loved and cuddled
possess prudence and perception
status, money, title and recognition is important to them
friendly and sociable
eager to learn

Techniques: I tried several techniques for this layout. I would like incorporate the other painting materials that I have and be confident to try and explore new techniques.

As I have mentioned on my previous post, having studied art hindered me from going to the next level, FREEDOM. It is hard for me to explore new things, try unconventional design, and to have fun. I am always cautious about things like spacing, colors, and sticking to traditional stuff that I know. With this being said, it took me almost a week to finish one LO.

With this LO, I tried to explore a bit. I was really scared. Here are some of the techniques:

(used Craft Robo for cutting this flowers)

(Flowers was painted with watercolor and colored pencils then distressed using a black stamp. Inner part of the flower was made from the same pattern papers used from the background, made Lollipop Circle Flowers from it. Then, the swirls were actually created using black sand. I covered the Glue dots with it).

(The background and the frame of the photograph was splattered with black, orange, and red watercolor)

I really enjoyed doing this LO even though it took me days to finish it. I had fun playing with watercolor and learned to use my Craft Robo.

It turned out pretty okay. Dont yah think? :P
